The most common motivator for the start of the new year in Western tradition is the famous list of resolutions.
It`s December, which means, it’s that time of year again. The time of year when we feel as if we have to turn over a new page.
Traditionally, New Year’s Day is styled as the ideal time to kick start a new phase in our lives. Unfortunately, the beginning of the year is also one of the worst times to make a major change in your habits because it’s often a relatively stressful time, right in the middle of everything that has been going on.
The continuous added stress that accompanies our lives since COVID appeared has transformed humanity’s lives and rendered the desire for resolutions extremely low. Fear and uncertainty prevent us from going out there and chasing our dreams. However, change starts from within. I`s the little things that matter and that make the real difference. The following small tips can help any of us find the motivation, inspiration, and belief to move forward with their dreams. What is important is to take it slow, give yourself time and not set yourself up for failure through being too harsh, restrictive and drastic in terms of requirements.
"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." – Anatole France
Pick One Thing
If we try to change everything at once it will not work. It`s best to start our journey of change through focusing all our thoughts, energy, and dedication on one thing at a
time. The successful completion of one goal will provide for the needed inspiration to
proceed with the next goal, and the next, and so on…
Plan Ahead Planning helps us have a better idea of everything that is about to go down. Uncertainty leaves room for a change of plans that may steer us from our objective. A fixed agenda is very helpful in keeping track of everything we have to get done.
Anticipate Problems Nothing ever runs as smooth as chocolate, Willy Wonka once said. There are always obstacles in the way, things always come up, problems arise, inconveniences may appear. The most important thing is not letting one problem ruin your progress and your motivation.
Pick a Start Date The holidays and all the vacations happening around the end and start of the year cause a series of disruptions in terms of starting timeline of achieving the goals we have set. The delicious food, the extended family time, the short days and cold nights can all impact the motivation coursing through our veins, that is why it is crucial to pick the least amount.
Go for It Sometimes we think too much about the how-s of achieving our goals. Insecurities often throw us in the middle of doubts making it close to impossible to be confident that we are more than capable of achieving our goal. The time to stop overthinking has come. Let us focus on our goal and just go for it!
Accept Failure Things do not always go as planned. There will be various setbacks along the way that may lead to failure. It is up to us whether we will allow that failure to be temporary or permanent.
Plan Rewards Reaching your goal is definitely something worth rewarding yourself for. Set milestones along the way for which you will reward yourself to keep the motivation up and going. The greatest reward and motivator is undoubtedly the end result and the feeling it will bring however, a little extra reward along the journey to your final destination will do nothing but boost your confidence.
Throught trust, motivation, creativity and the right amount of stubborness, anything can be achieved. Do not let anyone talk you out or set you back from what you want to achieve in your life.
We only get one life and one shot at living it the way WE want to. Fill your days with activities that will not only help you achieve your goals but also enrich your day to day routine.
Set a daily ritual made up of productive and rewarding activities. Find YOUR version of the perfect balance to wind down after completing your usual duties.
It seems hard to find the time for ourselves sometimes. That is why our resolutions list is often forgotten about every year.
However its very important to remember it all starts from YOU. A happy, healthy, confident, loving version of YOU is the best version of YOU.
By allowing yourself to take care of YOU for a change you arent taking anything away from being a great parent, a great friend, a great daughter or son, a great sibling, a great partner, a great employee or employer.
We often have the misconception that time dedicated to ourselves is a waste, that’s why it’s the first thing we chose to eliminate.
BUT time for yourself is an investment. It’s the top motivator to enjoy every single day of your life. Do not allow the world to silence your heart’s wishes and tear your motivation. Get out there with a proud, confident smile on your face and start NOW. It’s never too late to reinvent yourself.
Good luck! We believe in you…so should you
